Since he first
started composing, Aleksander Sternfeld-Dunn has been concerned with
the composer-performer-audience relationship. Aleks has strived to
write music that is memorable and interesting, music that ranges from
the humorous to the provocative.
Aleks's
composition Joker's Wild recently received a Masterworks Prize
from ERMMedia, which includes a recording by the Kiev Philharmonic
and inclusion on ERM's CD series Masterworks of the New Era.
Other awards include 1st place in the William R. Wiley Exposition in
Fine Arts for his composition Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano
in 2005, and an honorable mention for his string orchestra work Evolutions
in the 2007 Adagio Competition held by the Fauxharmonic.
Aleks completed
his master's degree in composition at Washington State University and
his bachelor's degree from California State University, East Bay.
Currently, he is completing a D.M.A. in composition from the Hartt
School of Music.
As well as being
an accomplished composer, Aleks is active as a conductor and string
bassist. He serves as an instructor of music in theory and
composition at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. |
